Mrs. Barber's Popcorn Party
This past week, the first grade classes studied all about corn. We learned how corn grows, how it is prepared to be sold in stores, and how it is made into many different things we use. We ended our week about corn by showing that popcorn can be made by something other than a microwave :)! Most of the children had never seen a hot air popcorn popper before. They were amazed at how it worked. Mrs. Barber's class really enjoyed eating the popcorn!

Bridge Building in the First Grade
Mrs. Evans asked the students in her class to be architects on Thursday. After studying about bridge construction the students were eager to build. They built bridges out of toothpicks, straws, and lots of glue. It was a huge mess and a wonderful success!
Storytelling at the K-8

Today the students had a wonderful time listening to some "old" stories. The Big South Fork will be having their annual storytelling event this weekend. Students were encouraged to come and visit and stay for the ghost stories that take place at night. The storytelling will take place at Big South Fork Park on Saturday.

Spike the Turtle
Mrs. Barber's class recently had a special visitor. On Friday, "Spike" the turtle visited our classroom. The students had a good time learning about Spike. They really enjoyed watching Spike run so fast. We ended the visit by having a class photo made. Spike's caretaker, Abbi, is holding him. After Spike left, the students worked on a classroom book about Spike. Each student present that day contributed a page to the book. The book is in our classroom library for the students to enjoy all year.
